As one of the few Portuguese fashion brands showing in Milan, David Catalán’s runway reflects a steady and intentional approach to building a modern menswear language rooted in construction, wearability and clarity. ASSEMBLED proposes a winter wardrobe designed to function as a system. Garments are conceived to work together rather than exist as isolated statements.
“I always start with how a piece feels and how it’s built,” says David Catalán. “For this collection, it was about how garments layer and fit together for winter. Nothing forced, just a focus on wearability and quality. I wanted it to make sense as soon as you put it on.”
The collection takes inspiration from traditional patchwork blankets, not as a literal reference, but as a way of thinking about construction. The focus is on how different elements are assembled, reinforced and layered to create warmth, durability and structure. This logic is translated into contemporary garment design through paneled cuts, irregular compositions and purposeful layering that feel natural once worn.
“Patchwork was just a starting point,” explains Catalán. “I was interested in how those pieces are built and reinforced. From there, it became about constructing a modern winter wardrobe that makes sense today.”
Outerwear sits at the core of the collection, anchoring a series of layered looks designed to adapt to different contexts and climates. Parkas, coats and jackets are conceived to sit comfortably over tailoring and knitwear, allowing pieces to function together without rigidity. Patchworked construction appears where structure and reinforcement are needed, borrowing from workwear and repair practices while remaining controlled and contemporary.
Materials play a central role in shaping both structure and comfort. Wool, cashmere and velvet provide warmth and depth, while denim and leather introduce strength and durability. Subtle coated and plastified finishes add contrast through texture rather than colour, creating a quiet tension throughout the collection. The palette remains deliberately restrained, moving through browns, camels, dark olives and earthy neutrals. This reinforces the idea of a wardrobe designed to be combined, layered and lived in.
ASSEMBLED is conceived as a complete winter proposition. Each piece is designed to stand on its own while working naturally with the rest of the collection. Silhouettes balance structure and ease, supporting movement without losing definition. From a commercial perspective, the collection offers strong outerwear, versatile tailoring and denim-led sets that translate easily from runway to retail, with an emphasis on material quality, construction and longevity.
The runway show will take place at Fondazione Sozzani, Via Bovisasca 87, Milan, on January 19 at 9:30 AM (CET). The presentation will be live streamed as part of the official Milan Fashion Week Men’s digital programming. The stream will be accessible via the David Catalán website and through the official channels of Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana, allowing buyers, press and the brand’s international audience to follow the show live.
The show is supported by Portugal Fashion, the main platform promoting Portuguese design internationally, co-organised with ANJE under the Portugal 2030 programme. Through this initiative, Portugal Fashion continues to support Portuguese brands in accessing leading international fashion weeks by providing production support, strategic coordination and global exposure.
With this season’s collection, David Catalán continues to refine a menswear approach defined by clarity, construction and purpose. ASSEMBLED is shaped by how garments are built, worn and combined, rather than by overt statements or seasonal excess.
