DAVID CATALÁN returns to 080 Barcelona Fashion with CRISIS SS27 [LIVE STREAM]
DAVID CATALAN returns to 080 Barcelona Fashion with CRISIS SS27, closing the 38th edition on October 23.
Following the success of his previous appearance at 080 Barcelona Fashion, David Catalán returns to the Catalan capital with CRISIS, his Spring/Summer 2027 collection. On October 23, the Porto-based designer will once again take the closing slot, bringing four days of fashion to an end at Marina Vela, overlooking the Mediterranean.
The return follows a warmly received runway presentation earlier this year, which drew praise from Spanish fashion media. This time, Catalán arrives with a collection that asks a rather uncomfortable question: what does safety look like when nobody feels safe?
EVERYONE IS SAFE. NOBODY FEELS SECURE.
Summer is supposed to be easy. Long days, open water, the reassuring feeling that everything is exactly as it should be. But reassurance and reality aren't always the same thing.
For SS27, Catalán draws inspiration from vintage life jackets, exploring the contradiction between leisure, protection and the uncertainty that exists beneath both.
“We live surrounded by things designed to make us feel safe, but that doesn't necessarily mean we feel secure. I was interested in that contradiction, and in taking something as familiar as a life jacket and placing it in a completely different context,” says David Catalán.
Denim meets technical fabrics. Frayed cottons sit alongside reflective and iridescent finishes. Deep indigo, weathered whites and unexpected flashes of colour run through relaxed silhouettes, with references to vintage life jackets appearing throughout the collection.
There is something deliberately unsettling about CRISIS. A familiar symbol of protection becomes a source of inspiration for everyday clothing. The feeling of safety remains, even when certainty doesn't.
THE PEOPLE BEHIND THE RUNWAY
For the presentation, Catalán brings together a creative team with longstanding ties to the brand and Portuguese fashion.
Paulo Cravo (IG: cravo.paulo) returns to lead styling. A prominent figure in Portugal's fashion industry for nearly three decades. A longtime collaborator of David Catalán, his involvement continues a creative relationship that has shaped previous runway presentations.
The show's original soundtrack will be composed and produced by Diogo Figueiredo, (IG: taseh_), also returning to collaborate with the designer. Having created music for previous collections, the producer will showcase a new composition for CRISIS SS27 @ 080.
Behind the scenes, Dulce Daniel (IG: dulce__daniel), the Portuguese editorial photographer behind many of DAVID CATALAN's campaigns and editorials over the years, will take charge of the brand's official backstage photography. A familiar presence in the brand's creative world
